Johnson and Johnson

Johnson and Johnson (a well known pharmaceutical company)  was fined 2.2 billion dollars for illegally selling drugs to increase their revenue.  Whats sad is that 2.2 billion dollars is nothing to the Johnson and Johnson corporation and nobody was even fired.  Johnson and Johnson was selling drugs illegally to children and elderly people.  They should not be allowed to just pay people off for the illegal actions the corporation has committed.  It would be harsh to shut them down because they do provide a great company on the legal side but actions like this should not go unaccounted for.  I believe that other companies like Johnson and Johnson are committing crimes as well and that large corporations should be looked at more closely.  I hope this lawsuit sends a message to large corporations that making a little extra money is not worth it in the long run.  Perhaps now, many people will not buy from Johnson and Johnson.

  1. Ben, you raise a great point, namely, that there is a strong argument that tougher punishments against corporate entities for wrong doing are now needed. Because of the general increase in pressure to provide returns to the stock market, there is a good reason to pursue any and every road toward profitability. Stronger penalties may be necessary to counteract this growing trend and tendency.
