Government Shutdown
So our government had a "Government Shutdown" which you might think we stopped spending money but in fact the government ended up spending tons money and time to deal with the debt issue. The victims of this is our country as a whole and the wrongdoer is the house and senate. They refused to work together and it's hurting our economy and we as America are going more and more into a debt. The "Debt Ceiling" is set and then raised all the time when we get close to it. The government needs to take a stand and really stand by the debt ceiling and cut down government spending instead of bickering with one another and spending more and more money. The sad thing is, that the people elected and who are spending more than we take in are not going to suffer. Its our nations future and future people who will suffer if this issue is not fixed. The debt is 17,000,000,000,000 and growing every single day. It's time for the "Smart" political figures we elected to make a change in our country.

I agree. To those in Washington, the debt ceiling is a joke. There might as well not even be one. Most of the time there isn't even a consideration of keeping it where it is at and creating a plan to lower it. They just let it continue to grow by the second with no plans to slow it down. They all claim disaster would come to our economy if we stopped allowing them to further us into debt. That is not true. The government just does not want to live within its means like we are all expected to do.
ReplyDeleteBen, you make a good point about the irony: the debate over the debt ceiling actually ended up, ironically, being a distraction from the issue of the deficit. Congress sets the deficit when they pass spending bills. The debt ceiling is just an additional hoop to jump through. It's like saying you will spend money on the new credit card, but then adding the caveat the you will have to raise your personal debt limit later. It's pretty meaningless.
ReplyDeleteAs Dr. Herron commented on my blog, it is like buying a lock for a cookie jar, but leaving the lock unlocked. It has no purpose anymore!
